Task 3 – Audition write up

In the audition process, I played guitar in the main studio and a small group of us recorded it using a fender amp and a Neumann 421 mic. I was initially meant to play one of my bands songs on guitar called ‘Cut Me Down’ but then Steve brought Chester in and they miked up the drum kit so that there was drums with the guitar piece. Me and Chester have never played music together so we decided to make things up and improvise. My guitar playing is very scrappy in this recording which if i had more time, i would’ve got a piece together that me and Chester knew I think this was better than just playing a guitar piece because it added more depth into the recording.

In this process, I learnt the mic that our group used to record the guitar and I also learnt more about getting sound and setting up a recording. I think my communication skills were decent because me and Chester played music together for the first time and we kept the right timing and tempo. I think I could improve by speaking up a bit more and learning more. I found setting up and getting things correct, so that its ready for the recording, the most difficult because it was on pro tools and I’ve never used that software before. My peers said that the performance was good and that the sound was nice.
